Magic always seems to be able to attract public attention especially with young people. People are always intrigued to find out the secrets behind the magic, but for most people once they know the secret they lose interest in the trick. However, for some people knowing the secret of one trick only makes them want to delve deeper into other secrets of magic. Anyone can become a magician, it just takes a lot of practice, time and patience to get there. Some people will perform magic as a hobby and others will take it further and make it into their career. It all depends on how much passion you have for it, and what you want to get out of it. You may not realise now, where learning a few magic tricks as a young person could take you!

Before you start performing magic there are some key points that you should always remember, these are also known as the Golden Rules;

  • You must never expose the methods of Magic – by doing this all the magic is lost, because the audience know exactly what you are doing, so there is no mystery.
  • Never bore people with magic – people get bored easily especially if it is not something they are particularly interested in the in first place. Don’t so them the same trick over and over again, always leave them wanting more.
  • Never perform a trick without enough rehearsal – you must only perform a trick when you know it inside out, back to front and sideways. If you are not totally confident in performing it, something is sure to go wrong then you have more chance of exposing it, as well as feeling silly.
  • Always enjoy your magic – you should only perform magic because you want to, not because others want you too. You have to enjoy what you do, and pass this onto the audience, that way they completely appreciate what you are doing.
